Two Little Country Squirrels in the Big City: Squirrel Picnic Visits NYC
This past weekend, Hodge and Podge and I flew to New York City to explore, get inspired, catch up with old friends, and make some new ones too.

Hodge and Podge Are Going to New York City!
Hodge and Podge and I are very excited about our trip to the Big Apple this weekend. None of us has ever been. We’ll just be three little wide-eyed squirrels in the big city. Luckily I have some very nice friends who will be looking out for us. We’re going to visit the Vogue Knitting Live marketplace at the Marriott Marquis near Times Square, the garment district (can’t wait to step foot in Mood!), Chinatown, High Line, Battery Park, and the World Trace Center Memorial Plaza to name a few. We can’t wait to get there and hug our friends and explore the city! But first we better pack.
Hodge and Podge have packed their bags for their big trip to New York City. What are you bringing, Podge?
 “I’m bringing a book on how to knit. I can’t wait to check out all the goodies at the Vogue Knitting event.
Better brush up on my knitting skills first!”
And Hodge what are you bringing?
“I’m bringing a donut.”
Huh, I see. Well, I guess we’re just about set then. New York City, here we come!

A Look Behind the Scenes at My Craft HQ and Travel Studio
Squirrel Picnic’s Craft HQ
Just last week, I showed you a book by Cut Out + Keep and wouldn’t you know, this week they’re returning the favor by featuring my Craft Headquarters and Travel Studio on their special feature, Craft Room Tours.
I have to be honest, when Cat, CO+K’s founder, first approached me to participate in this feature, I thought “Why in the world would anyone want to see my “craft space?”
I’m sure you too have seen those glowing photos of pristine craft rooms with sparkling white cabinetry, appliances, and lighting. They are usually decorated with functional and fashionable decor that any crafter would envy. I swoon over those pictures…Â and then look over at my messy apartment bedroom/craft space in dismay.
My compact travel kit makes it possible to take my crochet with me everywhere I go.
Lucky for me this experience has changed my attitude. The best part about participating in this interview is that it helped me to rethink what a craft space is and what one really needs to practice their craft. It made me question whether a studio has to be confined to any one place. Why can’t my craft space be anywhere and everywhere I take my crochet? But most importantly it inspired me to be grateful for what I have.

We’re on Vacation
Looks like Hodge and Podge are already relaxing in the sun, while I’m still here stuffing my luggage full of yarn. It’s about time I join them for some much-needed R & R.

Knit and Crochet on the Go
You may find it interesting to know that I don’t spend my days playing with yarn. As much as I would love to do that, I need a full-time job to support my yarn habit. I work in the editorial department of a greeting card company and do most of my knitting and crocheting on my two-hour round trip commute. And don’t worry, although I once saw a driver knitting behind the wheel, I’ve never tried it. I’d rather take the bus.
