You’re Invited to Mayor Snack Frog’s New Year’s Eve Party

Hi there, Friend! It’s me, Mayor Snack Frog.

You are cordially invited to join us for a fatimal New Year’s Eve party at my home on December 31. We’ll have appetizers, beverages, and a cotton candy machine! Dinner will be served at 7:30 followed by dancing on the tables and a spirited game of Twister. And of course there will be plenty of cheering and smooching at midnight.

New Year's Eve Invitation from Squirrel PicnicThis year we welcome some special guests all the way from Australia! Sharon from Gentlestitches was kind enough to finance their flight across the Pacific. Thank you, Sharon! A few members of the bunch wanted to join me in this invitation. It’s my pleasure to introduce Croc, Busty the bush-tailed possum, and Argyle the fox. They make up just a quarter of the troupe and wanted to say hi to you on behalf of all of them. They’ve been practicing their moves to teach us all how to do the Aussie Bush Dance.

So join us on Instagram and Twitter on New Year’s Eve to see all the fun as it happens. I’ll share these and photos of our party on the 1st, after I’ve properly woken, located my camera, and gotten my head on straight.

Still not sure if you’d fit in at a fatimal party? Check out the video from last year. Everyone has a good time. But even if we don’t see you, we wish you a happy and healthy new year!

Sincerely,

Mayor Snack Frog

Hodge’s Favorite Things: Free Thanksgiving Crochet Cuteness

Excited HodgeHodge is very excited for Thanksgiving. I mean, look at him. He can’t sit still, he’s so excited.

He says he’s jumping for joy because there’s just so much to look forward to. The food. The football. The friends and family. The food. And all the Thanksgiving decorations and toys he plans to crochet to make the season as festive as can be.

This year, Hodge has helped me gather some of his very favorite free Thanksgiving crochet patterns to share with you. He says you should make them all and proudly display them on your mantel for everyone to see. Or if you will be traveling this Thanksgiving, any one of these would make a very unique gift for the host and a sure conversation starter.

How to Give Your Amigurumi a Smiley Face

Amigurumi Smiley Faces How To by Squirrel PicnicIt’s time to learn another technique for adding faces to your amigurumi. I think you’ll enjoy this one — it’s probably the easiest to do.

Whenever you are making a toy for a small child or pet or you’ve run out of safety eyes or you’re just looking to try something different, a simple smiley face might be just the look you’re after. The following tutorial will show you how to use French knots for the eyes and a simple technique called a detached chain for the smile. There’s no reason to be intimidated by French knots. Just give them a try and remember that a little practice makes perfect. Well, actually, I don’t think my eyes are ever perfect, but I just tell myself that’s what gives an amigurumi its personality.

So grab your amigurumi, yarn needle, and yarn and let’s begin… Continue reading

So they checked into the spa and spent the day getting all the kinks worked out. Jelly Belly Bunny enjoyed having her ears rubbed. Rosa Robin got a seaweed wrap, which she ended up eating instead. Tina developed a crush on her masseur and bought a fifty-visit punch card on her way out. Hodge and Podge received paraffin paw treatments and now they’re ready to crochet up a storm.

SQUIRREL PICNIC (the comic): A Day at the Spa Join us at the picnic for more lighthearted fun!

Welcome the new and improved cast of Squirrel Picnic! They’re bigger and better. Can you tell the difference?

What do you do when your muscles ache from an overindulgence in needle crafting? Do you relax with a heat pad or get a massage? Try a different style of hook or needles? Do you take time off and explore another medium? If you’re suffering from a needle-crafting injury, I’m sending you soothing thoughts and some good wishes to get you back to your craft soon again…

Because next week, I’ll release the pattern for Tina Ballerina Bear and I know you’ll want to try this!
