Squirrel Picnic’s New Year’s Eve Party 2016

Each year, Mayor Snack Frog hosts a New Year’s Eve party at Squirrel Picnic and invites all his friends from the picnic and beyond, including you! Rilakkuma, a super cute bear, is the special guest at the 2016 New Year’s Eve party. He’s brought a surprise all the way from Japan – a purikura machine! It’s like a photo booth but way cooler. Wait till you see everyone’s photos at the end. Enjoy the show!

If you’d like to make a purikura machine for your squirrel friends, check out the video tutorial I used to make mine. These instructions from My Froggy Stuff even come with free printables for the checkerboard floor and display.

Ring In 2016 at Mayor Snack Frog’s New Year’s Eve Party!

Hi there, Friend! It’s me, Mayor Snack Frog.

Mayor Snack Frog NYE Invitation 2016You are cordially invited to join us for a fatimal New Year’s Eve party at my home on December 31. We’ll have appetizers, beverages, and music. Dinner will be served at 7:30 followed by dancing on the tables and a spirited game of Twister. And of course there will be plenty of cheering and smooching at midnight.

This year the guest of honor will be flying in all the way from Japan. His name is Rilakkuma and he’s a true fatimal at heart. He loves sleeping, lying around, watching television, and listening to music. We think he’ll fit right in at the picnic.

Rilakkuma even sent this present ahead of him. We’d like to keep it secret until New Year’s, but I’ll give you a few clues for now.

1) It helps you make memories.

2) It brings friends closer.

3) It makes everything cute.

Any guesses what it is?

Join us on December 31 to ring in the new year, meet Rilakkuma, and watch as we unveil his gift to the picnic!

Big Acorn Race Update: Roadblocks and Speed Bumps

These days, I’m feeling just like Podge as she nears the finish line in The Big Acorn Race. I’m in it with all my heart!

Squirrel Picnic's avatarThe Big Acorn Race

As I write the title for this edition of the book update, “Roadblocks and Speed Bumps,” I find myself thinking about some bad luck I’ve come upon lately, and how I hope that by writing about it I’m reversing a jinx. What I’m talking about is the superstition that catastrophe comes in threes. You see, I’ve encountered a roadblock and a speed bump so far on my journey toward publishing The Big Acorn Race, but I’m hoping that doesn’t mean that a third obstacle — perhaps in the form of a speed trap, giant wall, washed out bridge, or cow crossing — is waiting ahead of me. Maybe if I think about it hard enough I will find that I’ve already encountered more than two impediments in recent months and the curse will be lifted!
