Hello! My name is Jennifer Olivarez and I’d like to welcome you to Squirrel Picnic, a blog about crafting whimsical creations for fun and function and following the daily adventures of the furry friends who live and play outside our apartment in Colorado. The two little guys pictured here with me are Hodge and Podge (Podge has the flower in her hair). They’re the mascots of this operation.
The squirrels in our neighborhood keep us entertained with their antics — scampering and squeaking and chasing each other in a never-ending game of tag. That’s when they’re not trying to bury nuts beneath the Astroturf on our porch. Every day is a picnic for them! They remind me not to take life too seriously and to make time in my own busy schedule for fun and playful things, like crafts. Fun for me is knitting a sweater, designing my own crocheted toys and garments, and sewing my own clothes. I also have a wonderful time coming up with new adventures for Hodge and Podge and their friends the Fatimals.
I’m so excited to be able to share my ideas and inspirations with you and to hear what projects you’re working on. So make yourself at home. Have a seat on the bench and grab a handful of mixed nuts. I can’t promise you that every project will be successful, but they’re bound to be interesting.
Happy crafting!
Jennifer
